Militant Attack at 182 Bn BSF Campus, Srinagar

Srinagar, October 3, 2017: Today at about 0410 hrs, a group of three militants entered Bn HQ 182 Bn BSF Gogoland, Srinagar from the Gogo village side. Alert sentryof BSF after noticing the suspected movement of the militants immediately challenged the militants. On being challenged, militants opened fire and hurled grenades towards the Sentry.

The alert Force immediately engaged the militants by retaliatory fire. Under the cover of darkness, the three militants rushed in different directions, one entered Subordinate Officer’s Mess Building, another towards Administrative Block and the third one towards Canteen area. Sentries effectively engaged the militants by retaliatory fire. As a result, one of the militant was killed at the very initial stage itself.

On receipt of the information about the militant attack additional troops were rushed from Frontier Headquarters BSF Humhama Camps to the campus of 182 Bn BSF under the supervision of DIG (Ops), Frontier and DIG(G) BSF Frontier. The Subordinate Officers residing in the Mess were also equipped and they engaged and killed the second militant in the SOs Mess building itself.

In the meantime, the SSP Badgam Shri Tejinder, IPS along with his SOG team, CRPF troops under the supervision IG, CRPF Srinagar also joined the operations. The IG BSF Srinagar Frontier and IG, J&K Police, Kashmir Zone supervised and monitored the
operations. The 53 RR facilitated in the outer cordon of the campus during the operation. The third militant was restricted to Adm block building. He was forced to flee from Adm block and was neutralized while trying to escape from the Adm Block building near the temple. The combine troops of SOG, CRPF and BSF neutralised the third militant. The neighbouring area being of the civilians the operation was carried out in a very coordinated manner.

In this operation, ASI Braj Kishore Yadav of BSF got martyred. Three BSF personnel were injured who were evacuated to 92 Base Hospital. Their condition is said to be stable.

Three AK-47 rifles, two pistols and other war like stores were recovered from the possession of the killed militants.

The DG BSF Shri K K Sharma, SDG (West) BSF Shri K N Choubey have reached Srinagar, visited the spot and have appreciated the swift and successful operation by BSF Force and all other troops of sister agencies i.e. J&K Police and CRPF. He also visited 92 Base Hospital, Srinagar and met the three injured personnel of BSF. He has also rewarded all the BSF Officers and Jawans who showed exemplary bravery in this entire operation.
