MANAMA (Bahrain): Accusing Iran of playing a destructive role in the region and creating different hots spots which promote terrorism and terror related activities, Sheikh Abdulla Bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Chairman of Bahrain Middle East Military Alliances and Coalitions (MEMAC) on Sunday said state sponsored terrorism in the region is of international concern and the same would come up for discussions during the three-day Bahrain International Defence Exhibition and Conference (BIDEC) 2017 beginning tomorrow.

Referring to role of Iran in the region, Sheikh Abdulla Bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said the United States was also closely watching the role of Iran which is undermining the security in the region. “Iran continues to be play difficult and is backing terror forces in regions like Yemen, Syria and other places which is unacceptable. He said the three-day conference would also focus on Islamic military counter terrorism partnerships and how to take them forward for enhancing security and peace in the region. All the major stakeholders will meet to address common challenges faced by them and come to an understanding to forge a common alliance and vision, he remarked.

IMG20171016093142Stating that this three-day event was an opportunity for defence partners and firms to come together and forge new alliances and strike new joint ventures, he said it is expected that some deals are also expected to be signed during the exhibition. “Our belief is to foster partnership between different alliances in the region. We plan to come out with a very promising strategy on counter terrorism,” he added.

Brigadier Sheikh Nasser Bin Hamad Al Khalifa said the hosting of such a major event in Bahrain was a reflection of the aspirations of the wise leadership of the country and demonstrated Bahrain’s competitive advantage as a forum for cultures and civilizations and a place of dialogue and peace. “Bahrain’s hosting of such a big international event for the first time is a classic example of how successful the exhibition industry has become in the country. This will give the Kingdom of Bahrain a foothold on the international map in this vital investment and promotional field with the aim to achieve excellence and produce creative ideas,” he added.

IMG20171016094738More than 50 senior military and political leaders, politicians, decision makers from various fraternal, friendly and allied countries will take part with over 180 exhibitors, manufacturers and providers of the latest equipment and technology and military systems.

He said what the world is witnessing today is the result of successive events that cast a shadow over regional and international security, highlighting the necessity of military alliances to confront existing challenges and coordinate efforts to make the world a secure place to live.

“It is our responsibility at this time to play a role in facilitating strategic partnerships and alliances in our common fight against terrorism in the world,” he added.
