Vice Admiral Thapliyal aapointed Navy's Chief of Personnel

New Delhi. Vice Admiral Anurag Gopalan Thapliyal, Commandant of Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala since September 2009, has been appointed as the Chief of Personnel of the Indian Navy.

 

He took over in his new important assigment Jan 27.

The Admiral, who earlier guided the Indian Naval Academy through its initial years, is now responsible for the entire gamut of human resources development of the Indian Navy.

Commissioned into the Indian Navy in July 1977, and a specialist in Navigation and Direction, Vice Admiral AG Thapliyal has commanded the Eastern Fleet, Destroyer INS Mysore, stealth frigate INS Tabar, missile corvette INS Khukri and anti submarine Patrol Vessel INS Ajay. The Admirals other important appointments include Chief of Staff of Eastern Naval Command, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff Information Warfare Operations and Director of Maritime Warfare Center, Visakhapatnam.

Vice Admiral Thapliyal is an alumnus of Naval War College, New Port, United States and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. The Government of India had honoured him with Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) on the Republic Day of 2010.
