New Delhi. General Deepak Kapoor, Chief of Army Staff, has presented
the Annual Flight Safety Trophy for the year 2007-08 to 35 Recce and Observation
Flight of the Army Aviation Corps. This trophy is awarded annually to the Army
Aviation Flight achieving the best flight safety record during the year. The
Army Aviation Corps is a versatile force multiplier in modern warfare. The aviators
and helicopters of this elite arm operate regularly in extreme weather from the
deserts of Rajasthan to the icy heights of the Siachen Glacier. Flying
more than 50,000 hours every year, Army Aviation helicopters are the lifeline
for the far-flung isolated posts, ferrying in men and material and evacuating
casualties. One Army Aviation unit is also actively deployed in Congo as
part of the UN forces. The Corps has also rendered yeoman service to the
nation in times of natural calamities. A host of awards won by the officers and
men of the Corps are a testimony of its gallant history. Presently the Corps
is undergoing modernization and upgradation to augment its operational potential.
The Army aviation continues to live upto its moto SWIFT AND SURE.
