New Delhi. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has acquired all the three Boeing Business Jets (BBJs) it had ordered from the US company.

Air Chief Marshal F H Major told India Strategic that while the first BBJ had been delivered in August 2008, the third and last was delivered here in January 2009. Flight tests and familiarity checks are being conducted and soon the three aircraft would be available to the President, Vice President, Prime Minister and other VIPs as required.

He also said that the process to acquire helicopters for VIPs was also in its final stages.

IAF is known to be looking for eight helicopters in VIP configuration and another four to ferry supporting men and material.

The aircraft and helicopters for VIP movement are operated by the Air Headquarters Communication Squadron.

Air Chief Marshal Major said that these machines would be equipped with “the most advanced communication and self protection suites (SPS) so that safe transit (of VIPs) can be ensured under all envisaged scenarios.
