The Ships of First Training Squadron Visit Antsiranana, Madagascar

New Delhi, March 25. The ships of the First Training Squadron (1TS) of the Indian Navy, INS Tir and ICGS Sarathi visited Port Antsiranana, Madagascar from March 20 to 23 as part of long range training deployment. The ships were received by Officers from Malagasy Navy and reps from Indian Embassy at Madagascar.

Sri Bandaru Wilsonbabu, the Ambassador of India at Madagascar visited the ships on arrival. The senior Officers of the squadron called upon Mr. Rakotomanga Taciano, Governor of the region and Captain Raorasata Dibiharivony Gislain, Commandant of the Naval base at Antsiranana.

A reception was hosted onbard Tir which was attended by the Indian Ambassador, the Governor of the region and over 100 other guests including senior Malagasy Officers, civilian dignitaries and diplomats. The ships were also open for visitors on March 21 and 22 and received approximately 2000 visitors.

During the stay at Antsiranana, the ships undertook various training activities with Madagascar Navy which included NBCD, Fire Fighting, Weapon Handling and Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS). A yoga session for personnel from Indian and Malagasy Navy and friendly Volleyball and Basketball matches were also conducted. The visit of the ships of 1TS to Antsiranana has further enhanced the bilateral ties and cooperation between the two countries.
