Dubai. Raytheon Company has been awarded a $20.5 million Foreign Military Sales contract for spares to support planned Patriot Configuration-3 system upgrades for the State of Kuwait.

This sole source, not-to-exceed contract from the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal, Ala., calls for essential parts to support the sustainment of Configuration-3 radar systems to ensure continued mission performance. Configuration-3 radar enhancements include improved detection of small targets in a cluttered environment, enhanced capabilities to discriminate and identify tactical ballistic missile warheads, and an expanded area of defense with improved remote launch capabilities.

"By upgrading to Configuration-3, Kuwait will have the latest Patriot technology to ensure mission readiness," said Sanjay Kapoor, vice president for Patriot Programs at Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (IDS). "These enhancements bring a robust and proven capability to Kuwait's air and missile defense units and their ability to counter current and evolving threats."

Work under this contract will be performed by Raytheon IDS at the Integrated Air Defense Center in Andover, Mass., according to a statement Nov 15 issued at the Dubai Air Show.

Raytheon IDS is the prime contractor for both domestic and international Patriot air and missile defense systems and systems integrator for Patriot Advanced Capability-3 missiles.

Integrated Defense Systems is Raytheon's leader in Global Capabilities Integration providing affordable, integrated solutions to a broad international and domestic customer base, including the US Missile Defense Agency, the US Armed Forces and the Department of Homeland Security.
