New Delhi. The black box of the ill-fated Air India Express Boeing 737-800 which crashed in the southern Indian airport of Mangalore May 22, has been found.

The black box, which is actually bright orange-red in colour, records all the flight parameters like airspeed, acceleration, engine thrust and conversations between the aircraft and ground controllers in a four-layered fireproof container. It is normally stored in the tail section of passenger and commercial aircraft.

Officials of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and local police displayed the box May 25th, also known as FDR. It was black due to fire and smoke but appeared to be intact.

The cockpit voice recorder (CVR) and a part of the black box containing the digital flight data acquisition unit (DFDAU) have already been recovered.

The black box should be sent to the US for analysis.

Experts form Boeing and the US National Transport Safety Board (NTSB) are joining the Indian experts to determine the exact cause of the crash of flight IX 812, which was attempting to land at the Mangalore airport with 166 passengers and crew ferried from Dubai.
