Archana Ramasundaram becomes first woman to head SSB; BSF, CRPF get new chiefs

New Delhi. Archana Ramasundaram, a Tamil Nadu cadre IPS officer, has been appointed as Director-General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), a Central para-military force responsible for guarding the country’s border with Nepal and Bhutan. She becomes the first woman to head a Central Armed Police Force (CAPF).

She is currently serving as Director General (DG) of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). Her new appointment will be effective from the date of joining the post and will remain so till the date of her superannuation in September 2017 or until further orders.

KK Sharma, a 1982 batch Rajasthan cadre IPS officer, has been appointed as DG of the Border Security Force (BSF), India’s premier border guarding force on Western and Eastern sectors. He is at present serving as Additional DG, BSF.

K Durga Prasad, another IPS officer of the 1981 batch of Telangana cadre and presently working as Special DG, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), has been appointed CRPF chief. He had previously headed the Special Protection Group (SPG), which provides proximate security to the Prime Minister and former Prime Ministers.

An IPS officer of 1982 batch from Kerala cadre, presently working as Additional DG in BSF, has been appointed as Special Secretary (Internal Security) in the Ministry of Home Affairs.

ARK Kinni, a Bihar cadre IPS of 1981 batch, has been appointed National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) DG, it was officially announced here.
