20 NCC girl cadets complete 250-km high-altitude trek across Parang La
New Delhi, Sep 16. The National Cadet Corps (NCC) on September 16 concluded its flagship all-India girls’ high-altitude trekking expedition, ‘Aparajita – Parang La 2026’, with 20 girl cadets successfully traversing the challenging Parang La Pass at an altitude of 5,578 metres.
The expedition was flagged-in at Karzok in Ladakh by Director General NCC Lt Gen Virendra Vats and Additional Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Dipti Mohil Chawla.
The cadets, selected from different parts of the country, covered around 250 km over 30 days, trekking through demanding high-altitude terrain that included glaciers, snowfields and river valleys.
The expedition covered the route from Kibber in Himachal Pradesh to Karzok in Ladakh, crossing the Parang La Pass, which connects Himachal Pradesh’s Spiti Valley with the Changthang region of Ladakh. The cadets were accompanied by NCC officers, instructors, medical personnel and other support staff.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had flagged off the expedition from New Delhi on August 18.
Congratulating the cadets and support staff on the successful completion of the trek, Lt Gen Vats said such adventure activities help young people develop leadership qualities, self-confidence, teamwork and endurance.
The expedition was organised to encourage greater participation of young women in adventure activities and expose them to the challenges of high-altitude environments.
It also sought to promote national integration by bringing together NCC cadets from different regions of the country and fostering camaraderie and a spirit of unity among them.
