The Valedictory Function of the 31th Naval Higher Command Course (NHCC) was held at the Naval War College, INS Mandovi, Verem, Goa on 09 May 2019. Mridula Sinha, the Governor of Goa presided as Chief Guest at the function. During the event, the Governor presented certificates to all participants and awards to the officers who had excelled in the course.
During the Valedictory function, the Governor also released the 4th edition of the China Compendium which is a collection of research papers on China.
NHCC is the flagship course of the NWC and is conducted over 37 weeks. It is attended by Captain rank officers of Indian Navy and equivalent ranks from the other arms of the Armed Forces. The course curriculum of NHCC covers a wide canvas of subjects with the primary focus on subjects of strategic and operational importance to the nation in general and the Armed Forces in particular. These include International Relations, Geopolitics, Economy, National Security, Leadership, Strategy and Policy, Higher Defence Management, Joint Operations, Operational Level Planning and Wargaming; Military Technology, Administration, Logistics Management and Research Methodology. The participating officers are required to undertake research and submit papers on these subjects. Eligible officers also work towards the award of MPhil degree in Defence and Strategic Studies.
The graduating officers will now occupy key operational and staff billets in the Armed Forces and Indian Coast Guard.
The Naval War College is a premier training institution of the Indian Navy and one of the three War Colleges of the Indian Armed Forces. Rear Admiral Sandeep Beecha, is the present Commandant of the Naval War College.
