MAB Engineering Services (MABES) Reorganised as a Wholly Owned Entity of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG)

India, May 2. Effective 1 May 2023, MAB Engineering Services (MABES) has been reorganised as a wholly owned entity of the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) to explore and capitalise on its current strength and future potential in the global maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) market.

Under MAG’s new target operating model implemented earlier in the year, MABES will sit under the purview of the Aviation Services profit centre which is responsible for overseeing the cargo, ground handling and MRO operations, as well as the training academy for the Group. The portfolio will be overseen by Mohd Nadziruddin Mohd Basri as the Chief Executive Officer of Aviation Services and supported by Eke Nazri Rahim as the Chief Operating Officer of MABES. Previously, MABES operated as a subsidiary under Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB).

The move aligns with MAG’s Long-Term Business Plan 2.0 (LTBP2.0) as it seeks to fulfil its aspirations to become Asia’s leading travel and aviation services group, focused on delivering highly customised, end-to-end travel solutions. With a renewed focus on growth and innovation, MABES will continue to strengthen its capabilities in providing third-party MRO services, while maintaining the highest levels of quality and safety.

Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of MAG said, “As part of the MRO operationalisation plan, we have devised strategic initiatives which have yielded positive results in our MRO revenue performance and clientele base, allowing MABES to strengthen its position as a one-stop MRO solutions provider in the region. With new capacity, capabilities, and services, the reorganisation of MABES will allow us to compete effectively in the third-party MRO market and lead the growth of the MRO business in Malaysia. MABES remains committed to continue providing exceptional MRO services to its global customers, while also expanding its offerings to meet the evolving needs of the aviation industry, in line with MAG’s LTBP2.0.”

In addition to providing aircraft line and base maintenance to its own fleet, consisting of Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, MASwings and AMAL aircraft, MABES has also garnered trust from international clienteles comprising both airlines as well as aircraft lessors.  MABES currently operates eleven (11) production lines at three (3) hangars, namely Hangar 1 at Subang Airport (SZB) to cater to the maintenance of ATRs, and Hangar 5 and 6 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) servicing narrow and widebody aircrafts. It is also actively looking at expanding its production lines within the next two years. MABES currently holds 21 regulatory certifications covering Malaysia, Europe, the United States, among others.
