Retired IPS officer Anish Dayal Singh appointed Deputy NSA
New Delhi, August 31. The Union government has appointed retired IPS officer Anish Dayal Singh as Deputy National Security Adviser, strengthening India’s top security leadership at a critical juncture.
A 1988-batch IPS officer of the Manipur cadre, Singh has over three decades of experience in security and intelligence. He earlier served as Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), where he oversaw counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations. Singh retired in December 2024 after a distinguished career in some of the country’s most crucial security institutions.
In his new role, Singh will work closely with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, focusing on internal security challenges such as Jammu and Kashmir, Left-wing extremism, and insurgency in the Northeast. His appointment comes amid an evolving security landscape shaped by cross-border terrorism, cyber threats, and armed movements.
Singh’s expertise in handling sensitive operations and his on-ground experience are expected to add weight to India’s security strategies. He will also coordinate with key intelligence and enforcement agencies, including the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), to enhance inter-agency synergy and strengthen the country’s overall security architecture.
