Indian Coast Guard Ship Sachet arrives in Mombasa to strengthen Maritime Cooperation with Kenya Coast Guard Service

New Delhi. The Indian Coast Guard Ship Sachet arrived at the historic port city of Mombasa on September 17, 2025, marking the start of a four day visit aimed at deepening maritime cooperation and advancing the shared vision of safe and secure seas between India and Kenya.

This visit reflects the growing partnership between the Indian Coast Guard and the Kenya Coast Guard Service (KCGS). The programme includes operational exchanges, capacity building initiatives, and goodwill engagements designed to enhance mutual understanding and maritime interoperability.

During the port call, the crew will participate in courtesy calls, professional interactions, a joint capacity-building programme, and a harbour pollution response demonstration. Sporting fixtures and a joint yoga session will further highlight the human dimension of maritime collaboration. The visit will culminate with a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) at sea, designed to reinforce interoperability and validate the ability of both services to operate seamlessly in real-world scenarios.

The deployment of ICG Ship Sachet underscores India’s vision of SAGAR – Security and Growth for All in the Region reaffirming the nation’s commitment to supporting maritime partners in the Global South through practical cooperation at sea. The initiative also complements the broader maritime agenda in the Indian Ocean Region and East Africa, where collaborative capacity-building and shared vigilance are critical to ensuring maritime safety, trade security, and sustainable blue economy growth.

Following Mombasa, ICG Ship Sachet will continue its overseas deployment with the next port of call at Cape Town, South Africa, symbolising India’s resolve to work with like-minded nations to shape a secure, sustainable, and prosperous maritime future.
