Lt Gen Virendra Vats, YSM, SM, VSM, Director General National Cadet Corps visits NCC Directorate Maharashtra
Mumbai. Lt Gen Virendra Vats, YSM, VSM, SM, Director General National Cadet Corps (NCC), undertook an official visit to NCC Directorate Maharashtra on December 10 & 11, 2025.
On arrival at the Directorate the General Officer was accorded a ceremonious Tri-Services Guard of Honour by NCC cadets from the Army, Navy, & Air wings. He lauded the cadets for their impeccable turnout & drill standard, commending the display as a testament to their dedication, rigorous training, & esprit de corps. He urged the cadets to continue striving for excellence in every sphere, reinforcing the role of NCC as a cradle of future leaders dedicated to the service of the nation.
Briefing on Initiatives & Expansion
Maj Gen Vivek Tyagi, Additional DG, Maharashtra NCC Directorate, delivered a comprehensive briefing to the DG on the Directorates achievements, flagship training initiatives, & outreach activities across the state. The briefing highlighted progress on the ongoing expansion of NCC units, aimed at providing increased opportunities for youth participation in uniformed training & civic endeavours. The DG NCC appreciated the Directorate’s efforts in widening its footprint & aligning its initiatives with the national vision of empowering youth including increase in the intake of girl cadets to upto 40% which augurs well for Viksit Bharat @2047.
Focus on Infrastructure, Technology & Training
During the visit, detailed discussions on strengthening training infrastructure & leveraging emerging technologies to enhance the quality of cadet training were held. Key issues deliberated included the construction & upgradation of dedicated training academies on the lines of the Chhava NCC training academy at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, incorporation of Drone training into the curriculum, & the establishment of a Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO) at Nagpur to build competencies in unmanned systems. Matters related to human resource optimization considering requirement of additional manpower to effectively support NCC expansion & equipment management were also reviewed to ensure that the Directorate remains future-ready & capable of supporting an expanding cadet base.
Cultural Programme & Cadet Interaction
The DG also witnessed the cultural vibrancy of Maharashtra through a captivating programme presented by NCC cadets at Cariappa Auditorium, Colaba. The performances showcased the state’s rich heritage, diversity & patriotic spirit, underlining the role of cultural activities in fostering confidence, camaraderie & national integration among youth. The DG also presented medallions to staff & cadets excelling in NCC activities. The General officer also engaged in an interactive session with enthusiastic cadets, during which he held insightful discussions on the existing training ecosystem, adventure & social service activities, & emerging avenues for cadet development. Addressing the cadets, the DG exhorted them to maintain a harmonious balance between academic pursuits & NCC commitments, emphasizing that disciplined time management & holistic development would enable them to excel in competitive examinations & professional careers. He encouraged them to internalise the values of discipline, leadership & selfless service, & to emerge as responsible citizens & catalysts of change in society.
Synergy between NCC, Army Units/ HQs & State Govt
The Director General acknowledged the close cooperation & professional working relationship of the Directorate with HQ MG & G Area & all State Government entities. The DG called upon Lt Gen DS Kushwah, AVSM, SM GOC HQ Mg & G Area during which various aspects pertaining to NCC expansion, training, Cadets participation during Op Sindoor & various Social Service & Community Development (SSCD) were discussed.
The GOC assured the DG of unwavering support for all NCC activities. During DG NCC interaction with the Directorate officers & staff the General officer reiterated that HQ DG NCC will always empower the Directorate in its endeavour to scale new heights of performance, & appreciated its contribution in moulding motivated, socially conscious youth & future leaders of a Viksit Bharat @2047.
