ICG commissions indigenous fast patrol vessel Amulya in Goa

New Delhi, December 19. The Indian Coast Guard on December 19 commissioned ICGS Amulya, the third of eight new-generation Adamya-class fast patrol vessels, at a ceremony held in Goa, marking another milestone in India’s push towards self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

Built by Goa Shipyard Limited, the 51-metre-long vessel incorporates more than 60 percent indigenous components and reflects the country’s growing capabilities in ship design and construction under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-reliant India) and ‘Make in India’ initiatives. Named Amulya, meaning “priceless”, the ship features a modern design focused on operational efficiency, endurance and rapid response.

Powered by two advanced 3,000 kW diesel engines, Amulya can achieve a top speed of 27 knots and has an operational range of 1,500 nautical miles, enabling sustained deployment across India’s maritime zones. The vessel is equipped with indigenously developed, state-of-the-art weapons and systems, offering enhanced manoeuvrability, flexibility and performance at sea.

The ship is designed to undertake a wide spectrum of missions, including coastal surveillance, interdiction, search and rescue operations, anti-smuggling tasks and pollution response, thereby strengthening the Coast Guard’s capabilities along the eastern seaboard.

ICGS Amulya will be based at Paradip in Odisha and will function under the administrative and operational control of the Commander, Coast Guard Region (North East). Commanded by Commandant (Junior Grade) Anupam Singh, the vessel has a crew strength of five officers and 34 personnel.

The commissioning ceremony was presided over by Joint Secretary (IC), Ceremonial and Chief Administrative Officer, Amitabh Prasad, and attended by senior Indian Coast Guard officers, representatives of the central and state governments, and officials from Goa Shipyard Limited. The induction of Amulya forms part of the Coast Guard’s ongoing fleet expansion aimed at enhancing coastal security and maritime governance.
