New US Ambassador Sergio Gor takes charge in New Delhi, pledges to deepen India-US partnership
New Delhi, January 12. Sergio Gor formally assumed charge as the US Ambassador to India on January 12 signalling a fresh chapter in diplomatic engagement between New Delhi and Washington as the two countries look to further strengthen their strategic partnership.
In his first public message after arriving at the US Embassy in New Delhi, Gor expressed optimism about the future of India-US relations and underlined his commitment to advancing President Donald Trump’s foreign policy priorities while working closely with India.
“Namaste! Today marks my first day at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi. I am honored to join this dedicated team and eager to get to work advancing President Donald Trump’s priorities and deepening the US-India partnership. I couldn’t be more optimistic about the days ahead for both of our nations under President Trump’s leadership,” Gor stated in a post on the US Ambassador to India’s official X handle.
Gor’s arrival comes at a time when India and the US are engaged in expanding cooperation across defence, trade, technology and the Indo-Pacific, even as both sides navigate differences on issues such as tariffs, energy and global security. His emphasis on strengthening the bilateral partnership reflects Washington’s continued view of India as a key strategic partner in Asia.
As Ambassador, Gor is expected to play a central role in steering diplomatic dialogue, promoting economic and defence cooperation, and ensuring closer coordination between the two democracies on regional and global challenges. His tenure will be closely watched as India-US ties evolve under President Trump’s current term.
