President Murmu reviews global naval might at International Fleet Review 2026 in Visakhapatnam
New Delhi, February 18. President Droupadi Murmu on February 18 witnessed the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2026 at Visakhapatnam, where naval forces from over 70 countries assembled in a display of maritime cooperation and solidarity.
Addressing the gathering, the President described the Fleet Review as a powerful symbol of unity, trust and mutual respect among nations committed to maritime traditions. Referring to this year’s theme, ‘United Through Oceans’, she said the presence of ships bearing different flags and sailors from diverse nations conveyed a strong message of collective resolve and shared purpose in tackling global challenges.
Murmu underlined that India’s engagement with the world, including in the maritime sphere, is guided by the civilisational ethos of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (The World is One Family). She said global security, growth and sustainability rest on partnerships and cooperative frameworks. Emphasising the need for a rules-based maritime order, she noted that it must be anchored in shared responsibility and coordinated action among like-minded nations. The Review, she added, also advances India’s vision of MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions).
Highlighting the role of the Indian Navy, the President said it remains vigilant in protecting India’s maritime interests and ensuring stability in the wider maritime commons. She described the Navy as a credible force for deterrence and defence, as well as a dependable first responder during humanitarian crises and natural disasters. Beyond security, she said, it actively fosters goodwill and builds enduring ties of trust and friendship with navies worldwide.
Commending officers and sailors from friendly foreign navies, Murmu said their discipline and dedication form the bedrock of collective maritime security. She expressed confidence that the participating navies would continue working together to ensure the oceans remain avenues of peace, prosperity and global well-being.
