IIT Kanpur, Army’s Central Command ink MoU to boost officers’ construction management skills

Lucknow/Kanpur, March 19. The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Headquarters Chief Engineer of the Central Command of the Indian Army to strengthen the technical and managerial capabilities of military officers.

According to a statement issued by IIT-K on March 19, the partnership is aimed at enhancing professional excellence within the Army by drawing on academic expertise to support institutional development. It underscores the Army’s focus on building resilient, sustainable and mission-oriented operational infrastructure in line with evolving technological and operational demands.

As part of the initiative, a specialised training programme titled ‘Construction Management: Quality, Contracts and Arbitration’ will begin later this month. The course is designed to provide structured learning along with practical exposure to quality assurance systems, modern contract management practices and dispute resolution mechanisms – key elements in executing complex infrastructure projects efficiently.

The collaboration comes at a time when construction projects are becoming increasingly sophisticated, requiring strict adherence to standards of quality, transparency and accountability. Officials said the programme will equip officers with contemporary methodologies, best practices and academic insights to improve planning, execution and management of operational infrastructure.

The initiative is expected to boost technical proficiency and domain expertise among participants, institutionalise best practices in construction management, strengthen contract administration and arbitration capabilities, and ensure more efficient and timely delivery of infrastructure projects.
