INS Sudarshini reaches Sète for ‘Escale à Sète’ festival during Lokayan-26 transoceanic voyage
New Delhi, March 27. The Indian Navy’s sail training vessel INS Sudarshini berthed at the historic French port city of Sète on March 26 as part of its ongoing transoceanic expedition, Lokayan-26. The port call marks an important waypoint in the ship’s voyage and highlights India’s use of maritime outreach as a tool of cultural diplomacy and international cooperation.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence on March 27, during its stay, the vessel will take part in Escale à Sète, a renowned European festival that brings together traditional tall ships and maritime communities from around the world. The event provides a global platform for India to present its seafaring heritage while building goodwill and professional links with other navies and maritime organisations.
Before arriving in Sète, Sudarshini completed port visits at Salalah in Oman, Safaga and Alexandria in Egypt, and Valletta in Malta, covering nearly 5,500 nautical miles. Throughout the voyage, the ship has functioned as a “floating ambassador”, promoting India’s maritime traditions and engaging with international audiences along its route.
