Washington/ Bengaluru, April 1, 2026. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said President Donald Trump “deeply cares about the relationship between the US and India,” following a meeting at the White House that underscored continued attention to ties with New Delhi.

Gor shared details of the meeting in a brief public message on X, after returning to the United States for a short visit.

“Back in the US for a few days. First stop, meeting with our GREAT President in the White House,” he said.

The ambassador did not disclose specifics of the discussions, and the White House has not issued a formal readout of the meeting. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was also present during the Oval Office meeting, according to a photograph shared by Gor.

The comments come as Washington navigates multiple global challenges, including tensions in West Asia, while continuing to prioritize key strategic partnerships.

Gor’s reference to Trump’s personal interest in US-India ties is likely to draw attention from policymakers and analysts, particularly as cooperation between the two countries continues to expand.

The relationship has faced some strain in recent months, but Gor, as the top US diplomat in India, has played an active role in efforts to strengthen ties between the two countries.

The meeting also reflects ongoing coordination between the White House and its envoy in New Delhi as both sides seek to align on regional and global issues.

The United States views India as a key partner in the Indo-Pacific, with growing cooperation in areas such as maritime security, supply chains, and advanced technologies.

At the same time, both countries have sought to manage differences on trade and regulatory issues while maintaining momentum in their broader strategic relationship.
