IAF Maintenance Command, CAPSS host seminar in Nagpur on boosting airpower through self-reliance and efficient maintenance
New Delhi, May 13. The Headquarters Maintenance Command of the Indian Air Force (IAF), in partnership with the Centre for Airpower and Strategic Studies (CAPSS), organised a one-day Joint Aerospace Power Seminar in Nagpur on May 11 focusing on the theme ‘Efficient Maintenance and Atmanirbharta Enablers of Airpower’.
The seminar brought together senior military officers, subject-matter experts and strategic thinkers to examine how maintenance efficiency and indigenous capability development are central to strengthening India’s aerospace power.
Air Marshal Yalla Umesh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Maintenance Command, attended the event as chief guest. In his address, he stressed that strong maintenance frameworks and the development of home-grown aerospace capabilities are vital for sustaining operational readiness and national security. He noted that achieving self-reliance in aerospace systems reduces external dependence, enhances resilience and improves mission effectiveness.
The discussions featured presentations and panel sessions on evolving maintenance practices, emerging technologies, indigenisation efforts and policy initiatives aimed at enhancing the country’s airpower. Experts from the IAF and CAPSS deliberated on aligning maintenance strategies with India’s broader goal of self-reliance in defence production.
The seminar served as a platform for knowledge-sharing and closer collaboration between operational stakeholders and strategic experts. It highlighted the Maintenance Command’s commitment to innovation and indigenous capacity-building to support national defence objectives.
The event concluded with a renewed emphasis on strengthening cooperation between defence think tanks and the armed forces to drive transformative changes in aerospace maintenance and capability development.
