Rajnath Singh releases commemorative volume on Operation Sindoor

New Delhi, May 29. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on May 29 released a commemorative volume on Operation Sindoor featuring first-hand accounts of 100 military personnel who took part in the operation, describing the publication as a tribute to the courage and dedication of India’s armed forces.

In a post on X, Singh said the book captures the devotion and resilience of soldiers involved in the operation and urged citizens to draw inspiration from their sacrifices. He said the country’s people must strive to be worthy of the immense price paid by the armed forces to safeguard national security and sovereignty.

Calling Operation Sindoor an “unprecedented success”, the Defence Minister said India had compelled Pakistan to seek a ceasefire within four days. He noted that the operation differed from previous conflicts fought by India and said the volume went beyond a conventional historical narrative by documenting the personal experiences of soldiers engaged in modern warfare.

According to Singh, the publication highlights how leadership, courage, sound judgment under pressure and commitment on the ground transformed military strategy into operational success.

The book deliberately departs from traditional military historiography, which generally focuses on decisions taken at command headquarters and operations rooms. Instead, it attempts to portray the realities of combat as experienced directly by personnel in the field.

The accounts include experiences of soldiers stationed along the Line of Control targeting enemy bunkers, air defence operators tracking and neutralising hostile drones, fighter pilots during weapons deployment missions, and naval personnel maintaining heightened operational readiness at sea.

The volume contains contributions from personnel across the Army, Navy and Air Force, as well as officers from Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff. Contributors include combat aviators, missile crews, special forces operators, signallers, logisticians and medical officers, among others involved in joint and integrated operations.

The publication was released at a ceremonial event in New Delhi attended by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh.

The commemorative volume was compiled under the guidance of the CDS. Personal accounts were sourced through the Additional Directorate General of Strategic Communication, the Media and Public Information Cell, and the Directorate of Media and Public Relations, while publication support was provided by the United Service Institution of India.
