IAF AN-32 crashes during landing at Jorhat air base, five dead
New Delhi, June 13. An Indian Air Force (IAF) AN-32 transport aircraft crashed while attempting to land at the Roureah Air Force Station in Assam’s Jorhat on June 13, leaving five people, including the pilot, dead.
The accident occurred within the premises of the strategically significant air base in Upper Assam. The aircraft, which had been operating on a flight from Arunachal Pradesh to Jorhat, went down during the landing phase.
In a statement, the IAF said the aircraft involved was an AN-32 cargo plane employed for transporting supplies and that the crash took place while it was approaching the airbase.
“A military aircraft crashed at the Air Force Station in Jorhat, Assam, during landing. The aircraft involved was an AN-32 cargo plane used for transporting supplies. The accident occurred while the aircraft was attempting to land at the airbase,” the IAF said.
Another post on X stated that IAF deeply regrets the loss of five personnel in the An-32 accident at Jorhat, Assam.
“Sqn Ldr Prashant Singh, Flt Lt Shubham Kumar, Sgt Jitendra Sharma, Agniveervayu Khemaram Kumawat and Agniveervayu Danish Alam made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty,” the post reads. “IAF extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and stands firmly with them in this hour of grief.”
IAF added that rescue operations and investigation efforts were underway and that a court of inquiry was being constituted to ascertain the cause of the accident.
