Modi to visit Seychelles as Guest of Honour for National Day Golden Jubilee celebrations
New Delhi, June 26. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a state visit to Seychelles from June 27 to 29 at the invitation of Seychelles President Dr Patrick Herminie, during which he will attend the island nation’s National Day Golden Jubilee celebrations as the Guest of Honour.
The visit will mark Modi’s first trip to Seychelles since 2015 and comes amid growing strategic cooperation between the two countries in the Indian Ocean region. An Indian defence contingent, accompanied by two Indian Navy ships, will participate in the commemorative events marking the 50th anniversary of Seychelles’ National Day.
During the visit, Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Herminie to review the entire spectrum of India-Seychelles relations and discuss regional and international developments of mutual interest.
The Prime Minister will also address the National Assembly of Seychelles and interact with members of the Indian diaspora in the country.
India and Seychelles enjoy longstanding ties underpinned by historical links, cultural affinities and strong people-to-people connections. Seychelles is regarded by New Delhi as an important maritime partner in the Indian Ocean and occupies a significant place in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR, or Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions, as well as its broader engagement with the Global South.
The visit is expected to reaffirm the close friendship between the two countries and provide fresh impetus to cooperation across a range of sectors, including maritime security, development partnership and regional connectivity.
