Jaishankar, South Korean Foreign Minister review strategic partnership during Seoul visit
New Delhi, June 26. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held wide-ranging talks with South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun in Seoul during his official visit to the Republic of Korea from June 24 to 25, with both sides reviewing progress in their Special Strategic Partnership and discussing ways to deepen cooperation across key sectors.
Jaishankar visited South Korea at the invitation of Foreign Minister Cho and used the opportunity to assess the full spectrum of bilateral relations as well as exchange views on regional and global issues of shared interest.
The discussions built upon the outcomes of South Korean President Lee Jae Myung’s state visit to India in April 2026, during which the two countries had agreed to further elevate their strategic engagement.
The two ministers reviewed cooperation in a broad range of areas, including political exchanges, trade and investment, financial collaboration, shipbuilding, defence and security, emerging technologies, startups, culture, education and people-to-people ties. They also discussed coordination in multilateral forums and explored new avenues to expand bilateral cooperation in the coming years.
Welcoming the renewed momentum in India-South Korea ties, Jaishankar and Cho agreed to remain in close contact to ensure the implementation of decisions taken during recent high-level engagements and to further strengthen the India-ROK Special Strategic Partnership.
During the visit, Jaishankar also met Wi Sung-lac, Director of National Security of South Korea, and exchanged assessments on key regional and international developments.
On June 25, the External Affairs Minister delivered the keynote address at the opening session of the Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity held on Jeju Island.
Jaishankar also invited Foreign Minister Cho to visit India for the next meeting of the India-ROK Joint Commission at a mutually convenient date.
