INS Sudarshini reaches Baltimore as part of transoceanic Lokayan 26 expedition
New Delhi, June 27. Indian Navy sail training ship INS Sudarshini arrived at the Port of Baltimore in Maryland, United States, on June 26 as part of its landmark transoceanic expedition, Lokayan 26, aimed at showcasing India’s maritime heritage and strengthening international goodwill.
The voyage to Baltimore from Norfolk included a passage through the historic Chesapeake and Delaware Canal and under several prominent mid-Atlantic bridges, marking another milestone in the ship’s ongoing journey across the Atlantic.
The visit to Baltimore is expected to underline the enduring ties between the Indian Navy and the US Navy while highlighting India’s rich seafaring traditions. During its stay, INS Sudarshini will participate in maritime engagement and community outreach programmes in the lead-up to the Sail250 Maryland celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Before reaching Baltimore, the vessel took part in the Sail250 Virginia celebrations in Norfolk from June 19 to 23, joining tall ships from around the world and representing India in events such as the Parade of Sail and the City Crew Parade.
Having covered more than 13,000 nautical miles over five months from Kochi to Norfolk, the Lokayan 26 expedition reflects India’s longstanding maritime legacy and promotes the spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family) by fostering friendship, cooperation and mutual trust across oceans.
