Aeromexico Selects Honeywell Runway Safety System On 100+ Aircraft

Farnborough, July 20. Honeywell Aerospace announced at the show that Aeromexico intends to deploy its Surface Alerts (SURF-A) runway safety technology across the airline’s Boeing 737 NG and 737 MAX fleet of more than 100 aircraft.

SURF-A provides pilots with real-time aural and visual alerts when an aircraft is on a potential collision course with another aircraft on the runway. The system uses GPS, Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) data and software analytics to identify runway traffic hazards and issue alerts approximately 30 and 15 seconds before a potential impact.

Honeywell Aerospace said FAA certification of SURF-A on several Boeing aircraft is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026 and continue into 2027. The technology is available as a software upgrade to Honeywell Aerospace’s Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System(EGPWS) and Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), both of which are already installed on Aeromexico’s Boeing 737 fleet.

SURF-A expands Honeywell Aerospace’s runway safety portfolio, which also includes the FAA-certified Runway Awareness and Advisory System (RAAS) and Smart Runway and Smart Landing software. According to the company, those systems are installed on more than6,000 commercial aircraft worldwide.
