Lt Gen (Retd) Narendra Kotwal appointed Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal
New Delhi, August 9. Lieutenant General (Retd) Dr Narendra Kotwal, a renowned endocrinologist and former Director and Commandant of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, has been appointed Executive Director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal.
Dr Kotwal brings to the position extensive experience in military medicine, clinical practice, medical education and administration. Before taking up his new assignment, he served as Director and Commandant of AFMC, one of India’s premier institutions for medical education and training for the Armed Forces.
An accomplished endocrinologist, Dr Kotwal has made significant contributions to military medicine and endocrinology during his long career. He is currently serving as Director of Endocrinology at Paras Health in Panchkula.
Dr Kotwal, who hails from the erstwhile Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, joined the Indian armed forces and rose to the rank of Lieutenant General. He held several senior positions during his military career, with his tenure at AFMC being among his most prominent assignments.
As Director and Commandant of AFMC, he was responsible for overseeing an institution that plays a crucial role in the training and education of medical officers for the armed forces.
His appointment as Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal marks another major milestone in a career spanning military service, medicine, academics and healthcare administration. He is expected to contribute to strengthening the institute’s clinical services, academic programmes and administrative systems.
Dr Kotwal’s appointment has also been welcomed with pride in Doda and the wider Chenab Valley, where his rise from the mountainous region to leadership positions at some of India’s leading medical institutions is being seen as a notable achievement.
