Modi, Zhaparov review India-Kyrgyzstan ties, seek stronger economic cooperation
Bishkek, August 31. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov reviewed the progress in bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Kyrgyzstan during a meeting on the sidelines of the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit here.
Modi congratulated Zhaparov on Kyrgyzstan’s Independence Day, saying that the occasion gave special significance to the opening of the SCO Summit in Bishkek. He also congratulated the Kyrgyz President for hosting the 26th SCO Summit.
During the meeting on August 31, the two leaders discussed ways to expand economic and commercial cooperation, taking into account the complementarities between the two economies. They also reviewed growing people-to-people contacts, with student exchanges and cultural cooperation identified as important areas for further strengthening bilateral ties.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Modi highlighted India’s active participation in SCO meetings held under the Kyrgyz chairmanship, describing it as a reflection of the mutual trust, respect and support underpinning the longstanding relationship between the two countries.
The Prime Minister thanked Zhaparov for his hospitality and warmth, as well as for successfully hosting the SCO Summit.
The meeting underscored New Delhi’s efforts to deepen engagement with Central Asia and expand the India-Kyrgyzstan partnership across economic, cultural and people-to-people domains.
