India protests Pakistani naval conduct after collision with Indian Navy ship
New Delhi, Sep 16. India on September 16 lodged a strong protest with Pakistan over what it described as “unacceptable and unprofessional conduct” by a Pakistani naval unit that resulted in a collision with a ship of the Indian Navy in international waters.
The Charge d’Affaires of Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi was summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and conveyed India’s strong objection to the incident.
According to the MEA, the collision did not result in any major damage. However, India said the conduct of the Pakistani naval vessel was in direct contravention of Article 10 of the April 1991 Agreement between India and Pakistan on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troops Movements.
The ministry said the Pakistani diplomat was asked to convey to the relevant authorities in Islamabad the need for all military units to exercise due care and strictly adhere to the provisions of bilateral agreements.
India stressed that such adherence was necessary to prevent a recurrence of similar incidents.
The Indian Charge d’Affaires in Islamabad has also been instructed to lodge a similar protest with Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the MEA said.
