Military Nursing Service marks centenary with year-long celebrations
New Delhi, Sep 30. The Military Nursing Service (MNS) has concluded its year-long centenary celebrations, commemorating a century of service to the armed forces and the nation.
Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth attended the closing ceremony at Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi on September 30 and paid tribute to the officers of the MNS for their professionalism, dedication and contribution to military healthcare.
Addressing the gathering, Seth highlighted the crucial role played by military nurses in supporting the Armed Forces Medical Services during wartime, natural disasters and peacetime operations. He commended their selfless service and commitment to the Armed Forces and the country.
Director General Armed Forces Medical Services Air Marshal Sandeep Thareja also praised the MNS for its professional commitment, compassion and dedication, underlining its contribution to the Armed Forces Medical Services over the past 100 years.
The closing ceremony featured the release of a commemorative coin, along with the memoir Steel and Grace and a centenary book titled Healing Hands & Brave Hearts: MNS@100. A commemorative video, Glimpses of a Year of Commemoration, was also released.
A photo gallery tracing the history and evolution of the Military Nursing Service was inaugurated as part of the event, showcasing its contribution to military healthcare over the decades.
Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Director General Medical Services (Army) Lt Gen CG Muralidharan, Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Sandeep Jain, Additional Director General Military Nursing Service Maj Gen Rachel Thomas and other senior officers from the Delhi Garrison attended the ceremony.
The centenary celebrations highlighted the MNS’s continuing commitment to compassion, professional excellence and service to the nation. The year-long commemoration was held under the theme ‘Honouring the Past, Healing the Present & Inspiring the Future’.
