INS Trishul arrives in Italy, conducts joint exercise with Italian Navy warship
New Delhi, Oct 26. Indian Navy warship INS Trishul arrived at Civitavecchia, Italy, on October 25 as part of its ongoing operational deployment to the Mediterranean Sea, reinforcing maritime cooperation between the Indian and Italian navies.
Before entering the harbour, INS Trishul conducted a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with Italian Navy ship Carlo Margottini. The exercise involved coordinated manoeuvring drills, communication procedures, replenishment approaches, cross-deck landings, personnel transfers and boarding operations.
The exercise enabled the two navies to exchange operational best practices and improve coordination and interoperability. Such engagements provide opportunities for naval personnel to familiarise themselves with each other’s procedures and strengthen their ability to operate together during maritime deployments.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence, during its stay in Italy, INS Trishul is scheduled to participate in professional interactions, cultural visits and exchanges with Italian counterparts. The ship will also be opened to visitors, offering them an opportunity to gain insights into the Indian Navy’s maritime traditions and operational capabilities.
The port call reflects the longstanding maritime partnership between India and Italy and the shared commitment of their navies to strengthening professional ties and expanding operational cooperation.
The engagement also highlights the role of naval visits and joint exercises in building mutual trust, enhancing maritime cooperation and fostering closer ties between partner countries across strategically important maritime regions.
