General Atomics United States Space Force Unit of the Year Award Presented to 11th Space Warning Squadron
SAN DIEGO. General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) announced on June 30 that, the 11th Space Warning Squadron (11th SWS) is the inaugural recipient of the 2024 General Atomics United States Space Force Unit of the Year Award. The award and trophy presentation occurred at the Air and Space Force Association’s Warfare Symposium in March of 2025, with a unit-wide presentation occurring in June.
“This newly created annual award is to recognize the core values of commitment, courage, connection, and character exemplified by all Guardians, with special recognition in 2024 for the Knights of the 11th SWS, who distinguished themselves by providing critical, timely warnings covering thousands of missile launch, emerging threats, and battlespace awareness events around the globe,” said Scott Forney, President of GA-EMS. “With a 160 percent increase in events over previous years, the 11th SWS exhibited exceptional performance in providing the strategic and theater missile warning intelligence necessary to help ensure our national security and provide mission support for warfighters worldwide.”
The 11th SWS is located at Buckley Space Force Base in Colorado and operates Defense Support Program and Space Based Infrared System satellites to provide strategic and theater missile warning, while also supporting missile defense, battlespace awareness and technical intelligence.
The annual General Atomics United States Space Force Unit of the Year Award was established in 2024 with the support of the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies and the Space Force. The award was created to recognize tactical level units commanded by board selected 0-4 and 0-5 commanders and materiel leaders for exceptional contributions to the United States Space Force’s mission to secure national interests in, from, and to space. The official trophy presented to the 11th SWS will remain with the unit until the next year’s award is presented.
