Air Marshal KAA Sanjeeb takes charge as IAF’s Air Officer-in-Charge Maintenance
New Delhi, September 1. Air Marshal KAA Sanjeeb AVSM VSM assumed charge as Air Officer-in-Charge Maintenance (AOM) of the Indian Air Force on September 1, succeeding Air Marshal Sanjiv Ghuratia, who retired on August 31 after 39 years of service.
Following his assumption of office, Air Marshal Sanjeeb paid tribute to personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.
Commissioned into the IAF’s Aeronautical Engineering (Mechanical) Branch on September 3, 1988, Air Marshal Sanjeeb has extensive experience in maintaining and operating a range of aircraft, including the IL-76, Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) and Boeing 737-200.
He served as the Lead Engineer and Team Leader of the Air Headquarters Project Management Team responsible for inducting the IAF’s first IL-78 Flight Refueller Aircraft (FRA) in 2003. He was also among the pioneers involved in the induction and operationalisation of the IAF’s AWACS fleet.
An alumnus of the Bangladesh Flight Safety Institute and the Indian Institute of Public Administration, Air Marshal Sanjeeb has held several key field and staff appointments during a career spanning more than three decades.
Before taking over as Air Officer-in-Charge Maintenance, he served as Director General (Aircraft), Director General (System) and Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Maintenance Plans) at Air Headquarters.
In recognition of his distinguished service and commitment to duty, Air Marshal Sanjeeb was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) in 2015 and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) in 2026.
He takes charge of the IAF’s maintenance function at a time when the service is expanding and modernising its fleet while seeking greater indigenous capability in aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul and associated aerospace technologies.
