Trump promises a golden age for America
Washington. A little down on his tone and voice, maybe tired after all the campaigning, Donald Trump, after being sworn in as the 47th President of the US, promised a “golden age for America” at the White House on January 20.
“The golden age of America begins right now,” he said in his address.
Trump said that the US will “flourish and be respected” under his leadership as a “peacemaker and a unifier”. His comments came on a day when Israel-Hamas ceasefire came into effect under which Palestinian prisoners and Israeli hostages were exchanged.
Trump was sworn in as the President of US for the second time during a ceremony held at Capitol Hill, with Chief Justice John Roberts administering the oath of office. David Vance also took the oath as Vice President. Outgoing President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden welcomed President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump to the event.
In his inaugural speech, Trump declared that a new “Golden Age” for America had begun and emphasised his commitment to building the “strongest military ever”. He took aim at the previous administration, vowing to reverse what he described as the four years of American decline under President Biden.
The inauguration was attended by former Presidents Bill Clinton, George Bush, and Barack Obama, alongside a strong Republican presence in both the Senate and Congress, supporting Trump’s presidency.
India was represented by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Prominent business leaders, including Elon Musk, Mukesh Ambani, Jeff Bezos, Satya Nadella, and Vivek Lall, were among the invited guests.
