INS Tarkash concludes Mauritius visit, continues deployment in Southwest Indian Ocean
New Delhi, June 23. Indian Navy stealth frigate INS Tarkash departed Port Louis on June 22 after completing a port call to Mauritius, continuing its operational deployment in the Southwest Indian Ocean Region amid efforts to strengthen maritime cooperation and regional security.
During the visit, the ship’s crew engaged in a series of professional and community-oriented activities aimed at enhancing ties with Mauritius. Personnel from the Mauritius National Coast Guard participated in specialised training capsules conducted by the Indian Navy, while a friendly volleyball match between the two sides added a sporting dimension to the engagement.
In a gesture aimed at fostering people-to-people connections, INS Tarkash was opened to visitors on June 21, attracting around 450 members of the Indian diaspora and the local community.
Commanding Officer Captain Rohit Mishra called on Mauritius Police Commissioner Rampersad Sooroojebally and Indian High Commissioner to Mauritius Anurag Srivastava during the port call. The ship also hosted personnel of the Mauritius National Coast Guard for a yoga session on June 21 to mark the International Day of Yoga 2026.
The visit underscored the close and longstanding relationship between India and Mauritius and reaffirmed New Delhi’s commitment to enhancing maritime cooperation and promoting security in the Indian Ocean region.
The deployment also reflected India’s broader MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) vision which seeks to strengthen partnerships and foster collective prosperity across the maritime domain.
INS Tarkash, a frontline stealth frigate of the Indian Navy, has been regularly deployed across the Indian Ocean Region as part of India’s efforts to maintain a sustained maritime presence and deepen engagement with friendly countries in support of regional stability and cooperation.
