Bevel Gears India opens dedicated aerospace gearing facility in Bengaluru
Bengaluru, Sep 8. Bevel Gears India Pvt. Ltd. has inaugurated a 70,000-square-foot manufacturing facility near Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, expanding its capabilities in precision aerospace gearing for aircraft engines, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and aerospace gearbox programmes.
The company said the facility is its first plant built specifically for aerospace applications and has been designed to meet the stringent requirements of flight-critical gearing, including tight manufacturing tolerances, advanced process controls, inspection and end-to-end traceability.
The new plant will manufacture a range of specialised gears, including spiral and straight bevel gears, zerol and angular bevels, beveloids, hypoid and high-ratio hypoid gears, curvic couplings and precision parallel-axis gearing. The capabilities are intended to support aerospace programmes from prototype and development stages through serial production.
“This is our first plant built from the ground up for aerospace,” said Mushtaq Jamal, Director (Engineering & Business Development), Bevel Gears India.
He said the facility had been developed around the requirements of flight-critical gearing, with dedicated manufacturing, inspection and quality infrastructure.
Strategically located within Bengaluru’s expanding aerospace corridor, the facility is positioned close to aircraft and aerospace original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) companies, Tier-1 suppliers and other companies forming part of the city’s aerospace ecosystem.
The investment comes amid increasing efforts by global aerospace companies to expand their sourcing from Indian manufacturers, alongside the growth of India’s precision-engineering capabilities. According to the company, demand is rising for complex, flight-critical gearing as international engine and airframe manufacturers deepen their supplier networks in India.
Sulaiman Jamal, Managing Director, Jamal Group, said the new facility would enable the company to undertake programmes ranging from prototypes and development quantities to serial production across multiple aerospace platforms. The company will also provide reverse-engineering services for legacy and obsolete components to support the maintenance of existing aerospace equipment.
The plant is equipped with Gleason and Klingelnberg CNC bevel and hypoid gear-grinding lines, including a Gleason 275G CNC hypoid grinder with a straight-bevel grinding option and a Klingelnberg Oerlikon G80 CNC hypoid grinder, which the company described as the first machines of their respective types in India.
The manufacturing infrastructure is complemented by DMG five-axis machining centres, while a climate-controlled metrology facility houses ZEISS coordinate measuring machines and Gleason gear-inspection systems. Gear design and tooth-contact analysis are supported by Gleason software and SolidWorks.
The facility also has a 10-tonne electric overhead travelling crane for material handling.
Bevel Gears India said the facility operates under AS9100D-certified aerospace quality systems and is also ISO 9001:2015 certified. The company plans to add heat-treatment capabilities and obtain NADCAP accreditation for special processes in the next phase of development.
The new facility is expected to strengthen the company’s position in India’s growing aerospace manufacturing ecosystem and enhance domestic capacity for the production of highly precise gearing components used in flight-critical applications.
