PM Modi’s big statement on monopoly in Tech, Global South in G7 address

His speech highlights technology, India in Global South as well as Lok Sabha polls

  1. Prime Minister Modi called for ending the monopoly in technology during his address at an Outreach session of the G7 summit in Italy’s Apulia region.
  2. He emphasized India’s commitment to advocating for the priorities and concerns of the Global South on the global stage, particularly highlighting the inclusion of the African Union as a permanent member of the G-20 under India’s chairmanship.
  3. Modi underscored India’s leadership in artificial intelligence (AI), noting India’s status as one of the first countries to develop a national AI strategy and launch the AI Mission focused on ‘AI for All’.
  4. He stressed the importance of international governance in AI, highlighted during India’s hosting of the G-20 summit, aiming for transparent, fair, secure, accessible, and responsible AI technologies globally.
  5. Modi outlined India’s energy principles based on availability, accessibility, affordability, and acceptability, pledging efforts to achieve Net Zero by 2070 and advocating for a collective global effort to promote a sustainable future.

Italy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, June 14, addressed an outreach session of the G7 Summit currently underway in Italy, highlighting technological advances, Artificial Intelligence, India’s role in the global south and the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi once again brought up the concerns and priorities of the Global South countries at the G7 Outreach event. Addressing the event, Modi said, “India has considered it its responsibility to put priorities and concerns of countries of the Global South on world stage.” He added that these countries “are bearing brunt of global uncertainties and tensions”.

He further highlighted India’s presidency of the G20, under which the African Union was made a permanent member of the grouping. Modi also said, “India is among first few countries to formulate a national strategy in Artificial Intelligence. During G20 Summit hosted by India last year, we stressed on importance of international governance in field of AI”.

He stressed the necessity of democratising technology by ensuring it reaches all sections of society.

“We have to collectively ensure that the benefits of technology reach all sections, highlight the potential of every person in society, help in removing social inequalities, and expand human capabilities instead of limiting them.

In the 21st century, Modi remarked, “While on one hand technology gives the courage to take the man to the moon, on the other hand, it also creates challenges like cyber security.” He highlighted India’s proactive stance, stating, “India is among the first few countries to formulate a national strategy on artificial intelligence.”

He added, “India is striving for a better future through this human-centric approach.”

This should not only be our desire but our responsibility,” PM Modi said, speaking at the session on Artificial Intelligence and Energy, Africa and the Mediterranean.

The Prime Minister highlighted that India is among the first few countries to formulate a National Strategy on Artificial Intelligence and launched the AI Mission this year with the mantra, “AI for All”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in advancing global progress and well-being.

Speaking on India’s AI Mission centered on “AI for All,” the Prime Minister underscored the technology’s role in promoting the welfare of all people. He emphasized India’s commitment to fostering international cooperation as a founding member of the Global Partnership for AI, stating that this collaboration is pivotal for achieving broader societal objectives.

Additionally, PM Modi expressed satisfaction in attending the Summit following his re-election in the world’s largest democratic exercise. He emphasized the necessity for technology to prioritize a human-centric approach to ensure its successful implementation.

On combating climate change, PM Modi stressed that India was “the first country to fulfil all the commitments made under COP before time,” adding that “we are making every effort to fulfil our commitment to achieve the target of Net Zero by 2070”.

PM Modi Highlights Mission LiFE

After addressing the G7 Outreach event in Italy, PM Modi, in a post on X said, ‘As far as energy is concerned, India’s approach is based on availability, accessibility, affordability and acceptability. We are working to fulfil our CoP commitments before the designated time period. India is working to usher in a Green Era, based on the principles of Mission LiFE andalso highlighted the campaign to make our planet more sustainable.’

PM Modi emphasizes about the goal of developed India by 2047

At the G7 Summit in Italy, PM Narendra Modi, while speaking about various issues also talked about the goal set-up for India in the next two decades.

PM Modi said that “It is our resolve to build a developed India by 2047.” While mentioning about the inclusion of all the section of society, PM Modi said “Our commitment is that no section of society should be left behind.”

PM Modi mentioned the Lok Sabah elections and said, “The entire electoral process has been made fair and transparent by the ubiquitous use of technology”. Referring to his return to power for the third time, PM Modi said “It is the victory of the entire democratic world”.

Modi, in the first foreign trip of his third term, arrived in Italy early today to attend an outreach session of the 50th Group of Seven (G7) leaders’ summit.

Earlier, the Prime Minister held separate bilateral meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of the event. PM Modi met French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

He also met his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni at the venue of the summit and both leaders greeted each other with namaste gestures and briefly exchanged greetings.

Additionally, PM Modi greeted Pope Francis at the venue. He invited the Pope to visit India and said he admires his commitment to serving people and making the world better.

PM Modi arrived in Italy’s Apulia to attend the outreach session of the G7 Summit. This is Prime Minister Modi’s first foreign trip after being sworn in for a record third term.

PM MODI AT G7 SUMMIT

PM Modi and Macron discussed ways to further strengthen partnership including in areas of defence, nuclear, space, education, climate action, digital public infrastructure, critical technologies, connectivity and culture, the Ministry of External Affairs said.

Both leaders agreed to further intensify strategic defence cooperation with increased focus on ‘Make in India’, the MEA said in a statement.

During PM Modi’s meeting with Rishi Sunak, the leaders talked about the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, enhancing industrial cooperation in the defence sector, boosting trade and commerce, and more, the External Affairs Ministry said.

PM Modi who also met Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reviewed the bilateral relationship and exchanged views on situation in Ukraine.

Prime Minister Modi conveyed that India continues to encourage peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy,” according to MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

The Prime Minister called it a “very productive meeting” and said “India is eager to further cement bilateral relations with Ukraine”.

PM Modi meets Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida on the sidelines of the G-7 Summit in Apulia, Italy.

The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the Indo-Japan special strategic and global partnership, and discussed expanding cooperation across various sectors, including the landmark Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project and Japan’s planned 5 trillion yen investment in India from 2022 to 2027, aimed at bolstering industrial competitiveness and economic ties.

PM Modi holds bilateral talks with Italian PM Meloni on sidelines of G7 Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, June 15 held bilateral talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Italy.

Later, PM took to X, and shared the picture of the meeting with his Italian counterpart.

“Had a very good meeting with PM GiorgiaMeloni. Thanked her for inviting India to be a part of the G7 Summit and for the wonderful arrangements. We discussed ways to further cement India-Italy relations in areas like commerce, energy, defence, telecom and more. Our nations will work together in futuristic areas like biofuels, food processing and critical minerals.,” PM wrote along with the picture.

PM Modi, Italy PM Meloni sign Letter of Intent for Cooperation in Energy Transition

At the G7 Summit in Italy, PM Narendra Modi and his Italian counterpart GiorgiaMeloni took note of the ‘Global Biofuels Alliance’ and both the leaders signed the Letter of Intent for Cooperation in Energy Transition which will boost bilateral cooperation in clean and green energy. PM Modi and PM Meloni also expressed joy towards the new Executive Programme of Cooperation for 2025-27 to promote joint research and development in Science & Technology.

PM Modi meets US President Biden on G7 sidelines

After addressing the G7 Outreach event in Italy on Friday, PM modi took to X and shared pictures with US president Joe Biden from the event.

‘It’s always a pleasure to meet President Joe Biden. India and USA will keep working together to further global good,’ he added.

PM Modi met his Canadian Counterpart Justin Trudeau on the sidelines of the Summit. This was their first face-to-face meeting after Trudeau claimed that the Indian government agents were involved in the killing of a Khalistani separatist in Canada last year. Canada has arrested four Indian nationals in connection with the case.

PM Modi also met Pope Francis as he arrived for the Outreach Session of the G7 Summit. He hugged the Pope and briefly greeted him.

France President Macron praises PM Modi’s AI and digital public infrastructure initiatives during G20 presidency

French President Emmanuel Macron in his address at the Outreach session, praised Prime Minister Modi’s initiative on AI and digital public infrastructure during India’s G20 presidency.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Brindisi Airport in Italy to participate in the G7 Summit, was received by Indian Envoy, Vani Rao and other senior officials both from Italy and India.

Italy extended an invitation to India to attend the summit as an outreach country.

This is PM Modi’s fifth consecutive participation in the G7 summit, with India having attended ten previous summits.

As the current Chair of the G7, Italy is hosting the gathering of the bloc of seven major advanced economies, including Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the UK, and the US, along with the European Union.

On Friday, June 14, the second day of the three-day summit, world leaders discussed issues of migration followed by the Indo-Pacific and economic security. The Russia-Ukraine conflict was dominating the agenda on Thursday, where India has reiterated its stance on “dialogue and diplomacy” as the best approach.

In her opening address on Thursday, June13, at the meeting of the G7 leaders, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said southern Italy was chosen as the venue to send a strong message to the Global South.

On Friday June 14 talks, she said, “We will be discussing the importance of our increased focus on the Indo-Pacific”.

The G7 Day 1 of the summit- The G7 leaders’ summit being held in the luxury resort of Borgo Egnazia in Italy’s Apulia region from June 13 to 15.

The annual summit gathered representatives of Italy, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union (EU). The centrepiece of the opening day was a political agreement on an outline deal to provide $50 billion of loans for Ukraine using interest from Russian sovereign assets frozen after Moscow invaded its neighbour in 2022.
