By R. Anil Kumar

PM in Bengaluru

Prime Minister will inaugurate the new state-of-the-art Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC) campus in Bengaluru. Built with an investment of Rs. 1,600 crores, the 43-acre campus is Boeing’s largest such investment outside the USA. Boeing’s new campus in India will become a cornerstone for partnership with the vibrant startup, private and government ecosystem in India, and will help develop next generation products and services for the global aerospace and defence industry.

Prime Minister will also launch the Boeing Sukanya Program that aims to support the entry of more girl children from across India into the country’s growing aviation sector. The program will provide opportunities for girls and women from across India to learn critical skills in the science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) fields and train for jobs in the aviation sector. For young girls, the program will create STEM Labs at 150 planned locations to help spark interest in STEM careers. The program will also provide scholarships to women who are training to be pilots.

  • PM Narendra Modi to inaugurate Boeing India’s largest facility outside the United States, in Bengaluru, this afternoon.
  • The Bengaluru facility will be the largest site for Boeing outside, its headquarters in Virginia, in the United States.
  • Built with Rs 1600 crore investment, this will be the largest site for Boeing outside the United States.
  • The aeroplane manufacturer says it has invested $200 million to build the campus on 43 acres of land.

Bengaluru, January 18. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open Boeing India’s largest facility, a 43 acre complex located at Aerospace Park in Devanahalli, near Kempegowda International Airport.

Built with Rs 1600 crore investment, this will be the largest site for Boeing outside the United States.

The opening of the new campus underscores India’s significance as a key market for Boeing in both commercial and defence sectors.

Boeing historically has focussed its facilities in the United States, the new  campus in India (Bengaluru), underlines Boeing’s importance as a major commercial and defence market for the aircraft maker, which hopes to gain more traction and market share in the coming years.

The Boeing’s new campus is expected to generate 3 thousand more jobs to the currently existing work force of 4 thousand employees.

Earlier, Boeing had said that it expects Indian airlines to order up to 2,100 new aircraft worth $290 billion over the next 20 years which, according to the plane maker, is the highest-ever forecast for the country.

It also had said it expects single-aisle planes like the next generation 737 and 737 Max to account for most of the deliveries. Boeing India has set a Rs 10,000 croreyearly target for increasing sourcing from India, from the current Rs 8000 crore.

Boeing had announced a $100 million investment in infrastructure and programs to train pilots in India, which came in on the heels of Air India signing firm orders of over 200 jets from Boeing, that included 20, 787 Dreamliners, 10, 777Xs, and 190, 737 MAX narrowbody aircraft.

With Bengaluru expanding north, Devanahalli is turning out to be the hub of the city, primarily due to the proximity of the Kempegowda International Airport, as well as the convenience of the upcoming Blue metro line (KR Pura – Yelahanka – KIA), approved in April 2021.

Cumulatively these developments have led to an increase in job opportunities, which has further fuelled the demand for housing in the region, thus leading Boeing to open its largest headquarters in this location.

The new facility would house various labs, testing infrastructure, and part of R&D operations and will be heavily involved in Research oneVTOLs (electric, vertical, take-off and landing) vehicles and achieving Boeing’s sustainability goal of hitting net zero emissions by 2050.

Headquartered in Delhi, Boeing’s India operations include field service offices in Mumbai, Hindan, Rajali and New Delhi, and a rapidly growing Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC) in Bengaluru and Chennai.
