Brazilian President Lula to visit India from Feb 18 to 22; bilateral talks with PM Modi on Feb 21

New Delhi, February 13. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil will undertake a state visit to India from February 18 to 22 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the two leaders set to hold comprehensive bilateral talks on February 21.

During his visit, President Lula will participate in the second AI Impact Summit scheduled for February 19-20. The summit is expected to bring together global leaders and industry stakeholders to deliberate on the transformative potential of artificial intelligence and its governance.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, apart from his engagement with Prime Minister Modi, President Lula is expected to call on President Droupadi Murmu, who will host a banquet in his honour. Vice President CP Radhakrishnan and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar are also scheduled to meet the visiting leader.

Prime Minister Modi will host a lunch in honour of President Lula following their talks. The two leaders are expected to review the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and exchange views on key regional and global issues. Discussions are likely to cover cooperation in multilateral fora, reformed multilateralism, global governance reforms and issues concerning the Global South.

President Lula will be accompanied by around 14 ministers and a large delegation of leading Brazilian CEOs. The visiting ministers are expected to hold meetings with their Indian counterparts, while the business delegation will participate in a business forum aimed at boosting trade and investment ties between the two countries.

This will be President Lula’s sixth visit to India. He first visited in 2004 as the Guest of Honour at the Republic Day celebrations and was last in New Delhi for the G20 Summit in September 2023. Prime Minister Modi and President Lula have also met on several occasions in recent years, including during the Prime Minister’s State Visit to Brasilia in July 2025 – the first such visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 57 years – and on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg in November 2025.

India and Brazil have shared a Strategic Partnership since 2006, underpinned by democratic values and strong people-to-people ties. Brazil is India’s largest trading partner in the Latin America and Caribbean region. Bilateral cooperation spans trade and investment, defence, energy – including renewables – agriculture, health and pharmaceuticals, critical minerals, rare earth materials, science and technology, digital public infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and space.

The two countries also converge on several international issues, including UN reforms, climate action and the fight against terrorism.

The upcoming state visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership and help chart a forward-looking agenda for cooperation at bilateral, regional and global levels.
