Rolls-Royce to showcase world-class mtu drive, propulsion and automation solutions at DefExpo 2022

UK, October 14. Rolls-Royce is presenting its mtu solutions for naval and land defence at India’s leading security systems exhibition DefExpo from 18th-22ndOctober at Gandhinagar, Gujarat (Hall 9, Booth 9R.17). In focus will be the company’s state-of-the-art mtu propulsion and automation solutions for naval vessels, including Series 8000 engines for large surface vessels, Series 4000 engines for submarines and the new comprehensive mtuNautIQ ship automation portfolio, consisting of reliable, efficient and future-proof control and management solutions, from bridge to propeller. A new addition to the portfolio is the Equipment Health Management System mtuNautIQ Foresight, which monitors and analyses the technical condition of the complete vessel and enables predictive maintenance to help customers achieve maximum vessel availability and minimum fuel consumption. Also on show is the Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) mtuNautIQ Master, a fully integrated turnkey automation solutionfor complex projects.

Rolls-Royce’s Power Systems business unit has a strong presence in India with its Pune-based MTU India business that supports sales and servicing of mtu engines. Its engines power many vessels of the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard, with service teams present at several locations along the Indian coastline. An mtu engine with a power output of around 1000 kW powers India’s first indigenously designed and built Arjun Main Battle Tank. Rolls-Royce Power Systems offers solutions for a wide range of different applications, including governmental, power generation, Commercial and Industrial (C&I), mining, rail with a growing focus on sustainable solutions.

The company’s Engineering and Research Centre (EARC) in Pune supports global programmes for design, development and data analytics, and is today the second largest R&D site for the Power Systems business after Friedrichshafen, Germany. A team of engineers in Mumbai are also contributing to further developments for mtu naval automation technologies.

Its joint venture with Force Motors called Force mtu Power Systems produces mtu Series 1600 engines and complete generator sets at the facility in Chakan near Pune for the Indian and global markets. A partnership with Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) since 1986 enables assembly and testing of mtu engines of Series 396, 538 and 4000 in Ranchi. India also plays an important role in Rolls-Royce Power Systems’ global supply chain, with the company sourcing numerous components from Indian suppliers for its manufacturing facilities located in India, Germany and America.
