Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai to become Military Adviser to NSCS in first for serving three-star officer
New Delhi, June 13. Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, the Indian Army’s Deputy Chief and the officer who served as Director General of Military Operations during Operation Sindoor, is set to assume the role of Military Adviser to the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS), media reported citing sources.
The appointment marks the first time that a serving three-star general officer will hold the position of Military Adviser to the NSCS, which functions under National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.
In his new role, Lt Gen Ghai will act as a key link between the armed forces and the country’s highest national security decision-making body. He will succeed General NS Raja Subramani, who has since taken over as the Chief of Defence Staff.
Commissioned into the Kumaon Regiment, Lt Gen Ghai has accumulated extensive operational experience over a military career spanning more than 36 years. His command assignments have included an infantry battalion in the western sector, an independent brigade in the central sector, and the 56th Infantry Division in Arunachal Pradesh. He later went on to command the strategically important Srinagar-based 15 Corps.
A graduate of the National Defence Academy, Indian Military Academy, Defence Services Staff College, Army War College and the National Defence College, Lt Gen Ghai has held a range of command, staff and instructional appointments during his distinguished service.
His move to the NSCS comes after his prominent role in overseeing military operations during Operation Sindoor and is expected to further strengthen coordination between the armed forces and the national security establishment.
