Adani Aerospace, Embraer set to announce partnership to assemble regional jets in India
New Delhi, January 25. Adani Aerospace and Brazil’s Embraer are set to announce a strategic partnership next week to establish a commercial aircraft assembly line in India, a move expected to significantly bolster the country’s aviation manufacturing ecosystem.
According to a source cited by ScanX trading and investment website, the collaboration will involve setting up a final assembly line in India for Embraer’s regional jet aircraft. The initiative is seen as a major boost for the Indian government’s long-standing push to attract global aircraft manufacturers to set up local production, especially at a time when Indian airlines have placed orders for more than 1,500 aircraft.
Embraer already has a foothold in the Indian market, with close to 50 of its aircraft currently in operation across the country. These include civil aircraft flown by regional airline Star Air, although Embraer’s presence remains modest compared with the dominance of Airbus and Boeing in Indian carriers’ fleets.
The Brazilian plane-maker has been steadily expanding its engagement with India. Last year, it opened an office in New Delhi to strengthen its presence and support customers across South Asia.
Company estimates point to strong growth prospects in India’s regional aviation segment. Embraer projects demand for at least 500 aircraft in the 80- to 146-seat category over the next two decades, underlining the scale of opportunity for regional jet manufacturers.
The proposed partnership comes amid a broader shift in industry sentiment. While global aircraft manufacturers have traditionally been hesitant to establish production facilities in India due to concerns over commercial viability, a combination of robust demand from Indian airlines and policy incentives is increasingly making domestic assembly a more compelling proposition.
