New Delhi, December 10. The Indian Air Force on December 10 commemorated India’s victory in the 1971 war with a special ceremony at Air Force Station Mohanbari in Assam, honouring the courage and sacrifice of the country’s armed forces.
The event was attended by Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, along with senior military and civil officials, war veterans and a large gathering of youngsters from across the state.
A major attraction of the commemoration was a flying display featuring Su-30 MKI fighters, C-130 and Dornier transport aircraft, An-32, Chinook and Mi-17 helicopters, as well as ALH and Cheetah platforms. The aerial show reenacted key missions from the 1971 conflict, including the Tangail airdrop, the Meghna River crossing, and the strike on Dhaka’s Government House, underscoring the IAF’s operational prowess and continued mission readiness.
Marking the historical significance of the day, a seminar on ‘Air Operations during the 1971 War’ brought together veterans who shared personal accounts and insights from their wartime service. In addition, an exhibition titled ‘Triumph from the Sky-71’ displayed rare archival photographs from the war and featured a replica of the Swarnim Vijay Mashal, the ceremonial flame symbolising India’s decisive victory.
