Defence Secretary reviews operational readiness in Eastern Ladakh, visits forward posts

New Delhi, June 8. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh visited the strategically important Leh sector from June 5 to 7 to assess operational preparedness, border infrastructure and logistical capabilities along India’s northern frontier, amid the military’s continued focus on maintaining a high state of readiness in Eastern Ladakh.

According to a post made by the Ministry of Defence on its Facebook handle, during the three-day visit, Singh held detailed discussions with senior military commanders at the headquarters of 14 Corps, the Army formation responsible for safeguarding India’s borders in Ladakh. The review covered operational preparedness, infrastructure development and the sustainability of logistics networks that support troops deployed in some of the world’s most inhospitable terrain.

The visit comes as India continues to strengthen military infrastructure and force deployment along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) following the military standoff with China that began in Eastern Ladakh in 2020. Since then, the armed forces have undertaken extensive efforts to enhance connectivity, habitat facilities, surveillance capabilities and logistics support in the high-altitude region.

As part of his visit, the Defence Secretary travelled to forward areas in Eastern Ladakh, including Base Camp and the Northern Glacier region, where he interacted with troops deployed in extreme weather and high-altitude conditions.

Singh commended the soldiers for their dedication, courage and professionalism in carrying out operational duties under challenging circumstances. He lauded their commitment to safeguarding the nation’s security and acknowledged the crucial role played by personnel stationed in remote frontier areas.

The visit underscored the government’s continued emphasis on maintaining operational readiness and strengthening infrastructure along sensitive border regions while ensuring sustained logistical support for troops deployed in high-altitude sectors.
