DRDO, Indian Army sign pact to accelerate development of futuristic military technologies
New Delhi, Aug 26. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Army have entered into a Joint Working Arrangement (JWA) to strengthen and speed up the development of next-generation military technologies for future operational requirements.
The agreement was signed on August 25, bringing together the defence research establishment and the Army in a structured framework aimed at fostering collaboration among the armed forces, industry, academia and research institutions.
The JWA was signed by the Director General, Technology Management, DRDO, and the Director General, Military Operations, Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Army). The signing ceremony was attended by the Defence Secretary, Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development, and Chairman, DRDO.
Under the arrangement, collaboration between the Indian Army’s F&T Cell and DRDO’s Directorate of Futuristic Technology Management will be institutionalised. The initiative will be pursued through the Defence Innovation and Advancement Centres of Excellence (DIA-CoEs).
The framework is intended to provide a coordinated mechanism for identifying, developing and advancing emerging technologies relevant to future military needs. It will also facilitate closer interaction among soldiers, scientists, researchers, academic institutions and defence industry.
The partnership is expected to create a more structured ecosystem for translating research and technological innovation into capabilities that can meet the evolving requirements of the Indian Army.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen coordination between India’s defence research and operational establishments and accelerate the development of indigenous technologies for the country’s future defence preparedness.
