A team of 24 DRDO scientists from Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune visited Southern Naval Command (SNC), Kochi on an educational visit from 08-21 May 19. The scientists visited various training units and professional schools at Kochi.
The scientists visited INS Dronacharya, Signal School, Navigation & Direction School (ND School), Anti Submarine Warfare School (ASW School), Naval Institute of Aeronautical Technology (NIAT), Naval Institute of Educational Training and Technology (NIETT), Seamanship School, INAS 342, School for Naval Airmen (SFNA), Flight And Tactical Simulator (FATS), Water Survival Training Facility (WSTF), Naval Aircraft Yard (NAY) Kochi, Naval Ship Repair Yard (NSRY), Kochi and Centre of Excellence in Ethics, Leadership and Behavioral Studies (CELABS).
The team was introduced to various simulators such as Flight Training Simulator, Ship Handling Simulator, Sonar Simulator and other practical training equipment such as aircraft models and weapon systems and mountings during their visit. The scientists were also exposed to live demonstrations of Fast Interceptor Craft, diving operations and airshot (blank) firing of practice torpedoes.
In addition, the team also visited INS Sarvekshak, a survey ship, where they were familiarised with life on board naval ships and shown various survey equipment fitted onboard. A visit was also conducted to the Indian Naval Maritime Museum at Dronacharya as well as to the Folklore Museum.
