Shield Armoring unveils ‘PAMA-APC’ armoured carrier for police, paramilitary and defence operations
Mumbai, April 30. Shield Armoring Private Limited has introduced the PAMA-APC, a new armoured personnel carrier designed for defence forces, paramilitary units and police operating in high-risk environments.
Built on the Toyota Hilux platform, the vehicle combines ballistic protection, off-road mobility and compact design for operations across urban conflict zones and difficult terrain.
The PAMA-APC is powered by a 2.8-litre, four-cylinder engine generating 201 bhp and 500 Nm of torque, paired with a 4×4 drivetrain and manual transmission. With over 200 mm of ground clearance and a 3,085 mm wheelbase, the vehicle is engineered to maintain stability and manoeuvrability in rugged landscapes as well as narrow city streets.
According to the company, the armoured carrier is already being deployed by the Maharashtra Police and the Arunachal Pradesh Police, while discussions are underway with several other state police forces for induction into their fleets.
The platform is intended for both rural counter-insurgency roles and rapid urban response.
Measuring 4,900 mm in length, 1,730 mm in width and 2,210 mm in height, the PAMA-APC seats six personnel in a 1+5 configuration, enabling small squad deployment with space for mission-essential equipment. Its compact profile allows easier navigation in dense urban settings without compromising interior utility.
Protection features form the core of the vehicle’s design. It uses certified ballistic steel and multi-layer bullet-resistant glass to deliver CEN BR6 level protection against high-velocity fire. An armoured roof safeguards against elevated threats, while run-flat tyres allow continued movement even after damage. The reinforced structure is built to withstand blast and impact scenarios to enhance crew survivability.
Shield Armoring says the PAMA-APC is suited for a range of missions, including troop movement in conflict zones, border patrol, reconnaissance, counter-insurgency operations and law-enforcement deployment in volatile situations. The vehicle has a payload capacity for tactical gear and an operational range of roughly 400 miles, supported by a braking system designed for controlled performance under stress.
With the PAMA-APC, the company aims to expand its portfolio of armoured mobility solutions tailored to India’s evolving security requirements, offering a mission-ready platform for forces operating in challenging threat environments.
