India, Germany hold Foreign Office Consultations in Berlin, mark 75 years of diplomatic ties
Berlin, April 15. India and Germany held Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) in Berlin on April 14, with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and German State Secretary Géza Andreas von Geyr leading the talks. During the visit, Misri also called on German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.
The consultations took place in a landmark year for bilateral relations as the two countries commemorate 75 years of diplomatic ties in 2026, following the 25th anniversary of their Strategic Partnership last year. To mark the occasion, the co-chairs jointly unveiled the logo celebrating the 75th anniversary of India-Germany diplomatic relations.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, the discussions offered an opportunity to review the full breadth of the partnership and identify new areas for cooperation. Both sides undertook a comprehensive assessment of bilateral engagement across trade and investment, defence and security, technology, sustainable development, mobility, and people-to-people exchanges.
They agreed to further deepen collaboration in priority and future-oriented sectors such as critical and emerging technologies, defence industrial cooperation, digital governance, renewable energy, green hydrogen, innovation, and development projects in third countries. Regional and global developments, including the situation in West Asia and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, also figured in the exchanges.
In addition to official meetings, Misri interacted with foreign policy experts, members of the German Parliament, and senior officials from federal and state governments during an event hosted by the Korber Foundation.
The consultations were held in a cordial and forward-looking atmosphere. Misri’s visit followed German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s trip to India in January this year, which had provided fresh momentum to bilateral engagement. The Berlin meetings also helped prepare the ground for substantive outcomes at the next India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations scheduled later this year. Misri extended an invitation to von Geyr to visit India at a mutually convenient time.
